Restoran Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun, Sunway

Date visited : 12 February 2017

Today's recommendation is Restoran Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun. The owner's name is Ah Or and Chu Yuk Fun means Pork Noodle. And this place serves one awesome bowl of pork noodle. If you're a fan of pork noodle, this place is definitely a "Must-Try".

It's located in Sunway Mentari and I come here quite often because it's located within walking distance from my favourite bicycle shop, Keen 2 Cycle.

This shop only sells Pork Noodles. The types of noodles available are Mee Hoon, Mee, Kuey Teow or Lou Shu Fun. You can choose for it to be served dry, meaning with black sauce and soup on a separate bowl, or with soup, everything in one bowl. If you want extra ingredients, you could also order the Special.

This is Lou Shi Fun - Dry - Regular Size
This is Mee Hoon - Soup - Regular Size
This is Kuey Teow + Mee - Special - Soup - Regular Size
It is always crowded during lunch hours. So if you're in a hurry or have limited lunch duration, make sure you arrive early to avoid the main lunch hour crowd. It is not because you have to wait longer for the food to be served, it's because you may have to wait for a place to sit. Once you're seated, you don't have to wait very long for your food to be served.

Porcupine Place, Puchong

Date visited : 10 February 2017

I've heard about this place for quite some time now but I've always delayed my visit here because it's so near to home and I kept telling myself that it can wait... But now I kept asking myself why didn't I come earlier and I'm kicking myself for it.

It was by chance that I finally get to try out this place. We were organising a farewell dinner for our now ex-colleague and we had to choose a place... so TA-DA! Porcupine Place in Setiawalk, Puchong.

It was still CNY season and the Lion Dance team was going around to bless the tenants in Setiawalk, so that explains the few cute characters standing at the shop front.

Before I go into details of all the super delicious food I've tasted here, let me introduce you to the porcupine brothers, Peter and Patrick Porcupine (I named them... hehe). They will be assisting me today.

Porcupine Place is a very cosy restaurant suitable for all and for any occasion. The staff here are very friendly and attentive, making us felt so welcomed and comfortable. They have so many things on their menu for us to choose from.

They have many unique drinks in the menu and mine's called the Pink Lemonade & Basil. You should be adventurous and try something different too.

We ordered a few items for starters while waiting for others to arrive and salad is definitely a MUST have. This is the Quinoa Salad and it's vegetarian friendly.

This is the BBQ Pork Skewers. It's grilled Thai marinated pork escalopes with cool Japanese cucumber salsa, herb and chilli dip. This is really delicious.

The following dish is called the Quack & Oink. It's smoked duck and house smoked bacon wraps with capsicum confit and lemon cream finish.

And this is called the Spicy Fish & Prawn Pops. It's fragrant fish patty marinated with chilli padi and seared prawn with sour cream finish.

It's meant to be eaten in one bite to have that burst of flavours in your mouth.

When our group is complete, we ordered a few mains for sharing and the first one served was the Herbed Atlantic Cod.

It's seared cod fish in melting herbed butter and tomato salsa with creamy leeks, spring vegetables with fresh lemon finish.

Next we have the Spicy Seafood Burger.

The patty is freshly made of snapper fish and prawn, layered with their house lemon ginger mayonnaise, cucumber and spring onion finish. The taste of the patty combined with the other ingredients makes it unique and delicious.

Next we have the ChimiChurri Lamb Rack.

It's grilled New Zealand lamb rack with Brazilian Chimichurri Crust served with roasted potatoes and chunky root vegetables. You can choose the level of doneness to your own liking. The meat is tender, juicy and delicious.

And we also ordered their house special pasta, the Spicy Oink Oink.

It's usually not served as shown above. We had to separate the Spanish Chorizo (pork sausage) because one of our friend is a pescatarian (a person who does not eat meat but does eat fish and other seafood) would also want to try this dish, so they recommended to serve it this way.

Our last main dish is also one of their best seller, the Sticky Honey Chicken.

It's roasted chicken quarters in honey glaze served with kimchi and seaweed rice, sesame seeds, egg and lemon quinoa salad.

The taste of the chicken and the rice complimented each other very well. No wonder this is a popular choice.

After spending some time chatting and laughing, we finally had space for dessert. If you love the taste of basil, you should try this... the Tarte Au Citron Basilic.

The green in colour is a basil sorbet and those white foam like drops are their homemade marshmallows. You really have to try it.

For the chocolate lovers, this is for you... the Molten Butterscotch Sea salt Lava served with Dark Chocolate ice-cream.

You could also opt for Vanilla ice-cream if you feel the chocolate is too overwhelming.

And now presenting the best item of all... The Scotsman!

It's a dose of espresso with Scottish whisky, brown cane sugar, fresh cream and chocolate fudge. I'm really not a coffee person, but this is really out of this world!

It's so delicious that we ended up licking the chocolate fudge off our cups!

Porcupine Place also provide catering services and accepts order for customised cakes, cookies and other bakery items. Just call them if you want more information.

Chequers, TTDI

Date visited : 5 February 2017

I woke up today and felt like having waffles. So I decided to ask Mr G for some recommendations and this place came up in numerous sites... Chequers.

They serve both savoury and sweet waffles as well as pastas, pizzas and some other western dishes.

Let me show you our drinks and the two of the appetizers we ordered... Onion Rings and Chili Poppers.

The Onion Rings here is not too oily, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. What makes it yummy is the spicy mayo dipping sauce that came with it.

And these are called Chili Poppers. It's crispy fried green chili with tuna stuffing. Don't let the appearance scare you... it's not spicy.

As usual, if there's a Big Breakfast on the menu, we will definitely order it to try. It looks quite impressive. The portion is quite big too.

This is called the Down Home Benny. It's consists of a savory waffle, beef bacon, poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, guacamole and water cress salad. However, the water cress salad was not available and I forgot what the replacement was.

I decided to go for the savoury waffle section and I was torned between the Moo Moo and Chicken Cobb. The waiter noticed that I was having a hard time to decide and he recommended the Moo Moo.

The Moo Moo is a Signature Waffle Burger made with 100% Australian beef, served with homemade berry barbecue sauce, beef bacon, cheddar cheese, raisin slaw and pickled radish. The beef patty was really soft and tender. The homemade berry barbecue sauce really complimented the patty well and it tasted delicious.

There are a lot of other interesting stuff that I would like to try on my next trip here. But next time, I should go on in the evening and with a few more people.

This outlet also have space on the upper floor to host private events and birthday parties. They event do catering!

Tai Syou Japanese Restaurant, SS15 Subang

Date visited : 3 February 2017

If you are familiar with SS15, Subang Jaya, you'll know that there are a number of Japanese restaurants in this area, especially the row right opposite the Subang Medical Centre (formerly known as Sime Darby Medical Centre). We've recently given ourselves a mission... to try each and everyone of them.

We've tried a few already but we're currently stuck at this one place that we kept going back for more than 5 times already. It's called Tai Syou Japanese Restaurant.

What I like most about this place is the friendliness of the staff including the lady boss and of course the quality of the food. The space is not very big but it's very cosy. You can choose from floor, table and counter seating. Since it was not crowded today, we chose the floor seating.

If you're not sure what to order, you can get the assistance of the lady boss to make some recommendations. Once you've placed your order, they will serve you free appetizer of the day. And today we were given Potato Salad.

Tai Syou is different from most Japanese restaurant as they do not have many sushi choices but have quite a variety of kushiyaki (skewered grilled meat/vegetable) to choose from. You can choose if you want your selection to be grilled with salt or teriyaki sauce.

My Japanese affair would never be complete without having a serving of Salmon Sashimi and the sashimi here is very fresh.

There are 5 types of Temaki (Handrolls) to choose from and today's choice was the Soft Shell Crab Temaki. The thing I like about the Temaki here is that the soft shell crab here is not fried using recycled oil and it's not soggy when served. It's very important to me that the it's wrapped tight with the seaweed still crispy.

The tempura here is not bad either.

If you wish for something stronger in flavour, you can try their Una Don (Roasted Eel on Rice).

Some of you might have a hard time choosing what to eat from a menu. To simplify things, you can also choose from their set lunch/dinner menu. This set here is called the Sashimi with Ten Don Set and it only cost RM39.

If you still have room for dessert, why not have some ice-cream... this is delicious!

If you're looking for something not too elaborate but yet delicious and affordable, you should check this place out.

Restoran Sai Kong, Kepong

Date visited : 3 February 2017

Happy New Year of the Rooster!!

I've been trying to find a blog worthy place since my last entry but unfortunately there were none. And because it's Chinese New Year, I have the chance to introduce to you my favourite Chinese New Year go to restaurant... Restoran Sai Kong in Kepong Baru.

I only come to this place once or twice a year and it's always during Chinese New Year. The purpose of my visit is because of this... the Lap Mei Fan (Waxed Meat Claypot Rice or 腊味饭).

This restaurant is open all year round but this particular dish is only available about 15 days before and 15 days after Chinese New Year. To avoid disappointment, it is recommended to place an order at least a day before your visit. I've had this dish in many other places but I still find this place serving the best Lap Mei Fan so far. The waxed meat are in generous portions and very flavourful. On overall it's not too salty, cooked to the right moisture level and has a rich, smoky taste.

However, if you're not interested in Lap Mei Fan, you can order other Chinese dishes such as these...

Their regular dishes are equally good they are all reasonably priced too.

If you are looking for a nice place to have good Chinese dinner with your family and friends, this place is highly recommended if you don't mind driving to Kepong. But if you are a fan of Lap Mei Fan, you HAVE to try the Lap Mei Fan here.
