Lai Foong Beef Noodle, Puchong

Date visited : 18 March 2017

There are 3 types of beef noodles that I know of... the soupy kind, the dry and sticky kind (Seremban style) and the Kota Bharu style kind. This one's the soupy kind (you can also have it dry if you want).

This beef noodle stall started its business in Lai Foong Restaurant, KL in 1956 and has been serving delicious beef noodles to many customers since then. And that would make a total 61 years of goodness this year.

My parents used to bring us there for breakfast when we were kids and that was back in the days when the KL traffic condition was not as crazy. But I don't go there anymore not because it's not good but I really don't like the KL traffic condition and parking problems in this area. However, my father still goes to this coffee shop every time he takes the public transport down to KL to run some errands.

Recently I was informed by my father that they now have a branch in Puchong. So I took the opportunity to go reminisce the taste that I've known since my childhood.

And here it is... the famous Lai Foong Beef Noodle! The soup is a mixture of more than 10 kinds of medicinal herbs with addition of a secret recipe using the ox bone making it thick and flavourful.

There are 4 types of noodles for you to choose from, mee hoon, mee, kuey teow and lai fun. You could also choose your preferred combination of ingredients... beef ball, lean meat, brisket, tripe, tendon or leaf tripe. If you prefer to add a bit more spice to your noodles, you will love their homemade chilli sauce.

To me this is the best soupy beef noodle in KL. If you are a beef noodle lover, why not give it a try and tell me what you think.

Moobaan Thai, Taman Desa KL

Date visited : 11 March 2017

Today's recommendation is Thai food. When mentioned Thai food, some might immediately think of these words... expensive and spicy. One thing this place is NOT is expensive. Even with RM10, you'll be able to get a delicious and very satisfying Thai meal. This place is called Moobaan Thai.

It serves casual Thai food, so their menu is a simple one piece type and maybe an extra piece that shows you the set lunches or their special menu.

A Thai meal is not complete without having the Pandan Lemongrass Water. Here you just need to order one cup and you can have multiple refills.

I've been here twice for lunch during weekdays and this visit is already my third visit but firsttime for dinner. One of my favourite is this dish... Kuey Teow Namsai.

It's rice noodles in clear soup with minced pork and pork balls. It has a slight Thai spiciness added into the soup but don't worry... the spiciness level is very low.

And if you prefer a non soupy type of noodles, you could always order a Pad Thai, Thai fried noodles.

The lime is to add a little sourish taste to this dish and it's optional. Now this dish is not spicy and not too oily... it's delicious.

For those who prefer a rice dish, you could try their Khao Pad Sapparot... in English, Pineapple Fried Rice.

Even though it's not served in a pineapple like how most Thai restaurants do, it still has the fragrant pineapple taste.

Since we're having rice, we also ordered a few common Thai dishes.

Green Curry Chicken
Stir-fried mixed vegetables
Pandan Chicken
Creamy Seafood Tomyam Soup

The taste of these few dishes are rather subjective. I usually get turned off if the Tomyam Soup was too spicy but this was just right for me... not too spicy and just the right level of sourness. The Pandan Chicken is also worth mentioning because it's exceptionally good.

And last but not least, the best dish tonight was the Moo Ping... grilled pork in Thai style.

It's so juicy and tasty! You should definitely try this. It costs RM3 per stick.

For those who are working in Old Klang Road, Bangsar or Brickfields, you should definitely consider this place for lunch. You don't have to wait long for your orders to be served and it won't cost you a bomb.

Briqs, Bangsar

Date visited : 4 March 2017

It was by chance that I stumbled upon this place. I was in Bangsar for my weekly cycling routine and my sister suggested we check out this new cafe after our cycling.

Since we were all sweaty and needed to keep an eye on our bikes, we decided to choose a table at their al fresco area. It's a very cosy cafe with friendly staff. We soon got to know that they're currently re-branding from the name Patissez to Briqs and that explains the missing signboard at the shop front.

Since there were only 3 of us, we ordered 3 different items on the menu to try.

This is called the Roasted Mushrooms & Smashed Avo.

The mushrooms are very tasty and the smashed avocado complimented it really well.

This is the Egg Benedict...

It's a delicious combination between the tea smoked salmon, poached eggs, watercress, chipotle hollandaise and pomegranate on an English muffin.

And for those who prefer something sweet for breakfast, here's their version of the French Toast.

The brioche soaked in beaten eggs is well toasted on the outside but still fluffy on the inside and the best part is, it's not oily! It's served with some house made honeycomb chunks, caramelised mango, orange segments and vanilla ice cream.

If you're looking for some simple yet delicious breakfast around Bangsar area, why not consider Briqs.
