Restoran Tian Tian Seafood, Sunway

If you are looking for a place to have a simple Chinese dinner with your family and friends, this would be the right place for you.

This can be considered a hidden gem as it is not located at the busy parts of Sunway and it is known mainly to the locals and people working in Sunway. I too did not know about this place until a friend who works in Sunway brought me here. I would have never wander to this part of Sunway on my own.

By day, it's just an ordinary neighbourhood food court. But in the evening, after the other food stalls closes, Restoran Tian Tian Seafood opens and dominates this place.

They have quite a variety of dishes to choose from and I have yet to try most of the items on their menu.

Let me show you some of the dishes I have tried so far...

This is the Salted Egg Squid. This is one of my favourite dish here.

Their Sweet & Sour Pork are quite delicious too.

This is their version of the Butter Milk Mantis Prawn. It may have been better if it was prepared differently because I find this a bit dry and the taste of the butter milk is not distinct enough.

I quite like the Steam Eggs served here. The texture is very soft and smooth. There are bits of century eggs, fried shallots and spring onions added into it too.

Stir Fried Kai Lan
Siong Tong Yuen Choy (Chinese Spinach Soup)
In summary, this place serves good food that will not burn a hole in your pocket. So if you happen to try out this place, let me know if you've discovered any other dishes that you may like.

Softcore, Sunway

Date visited : 1 January 2018

I've passed by this place many times but I have never made it a point to try it out. My chance came on the first day of 2018. I had a late brunch so I was looking for a place to have some light snacks and dessert. So this was the first place that came to my mind... Softcore.

The interior was very cozy and tastefully decorated. They have a variety of teas and juices to choose from. So even if you're not hungry, this would be a good place for a drink as well.

Before I start with the food that we ordered, let me show you our pretty drinks...

The refreshing pink drink in front is called the Pample Rose. It is made of pink grapefruit and sun dried orange topped with soda. The yummy white one at the back is the Oreo Cookies Milkshake. It is a blend of vanilla and oreo cream cookies.

And as for food, my husband and I didn't want anything heavy so we decided to go for some snacks instead.

My husband ordered the Hashbrown Stack. Their homemade hashbrowns are crispy on the outside while still soft and delicious on the inside. It is served with crispy beef bacon, coleslaw, a fried egg and some salad.

I on the other hand had a hard time choosing what to eat because there are so many interesting selections on their main menu and their special menu.

I finally decided on their Golden Toast. The two brown pieces you see in the photo are their version of french toast and they are topped with caramelized banana, fresh strawberries and blueberries. The toast are unique and it doesn't look nor taste like ordinary bread. It also have a crispy outer layer and a soft inside. They are drizzled with maple syrup served with lemon puree, strawberry jam & whipped butter. It has a combination of salty, sour and sweet flavours all in one dish.

Since the signature dish of this place is their molten cake, I had to try at least one of their chef's recommended selection.

I chose their Taro Molten Cake. It is made from purple yam, fried yam strips, yam coulis, gula melaka and served with vanilla ice-cream. I'm glad it did not disappoint me but made me want to come back and try other flavours as well.

On overall, this place is a very comfortable place to chill and chat with your friends while enjoying your food and drinks.

Food By Fat Cat, Sunway

Date visited : 25 December 2017

It's been awhile since I've made any new recommendations. Once again I came across this place by chance when I was on a Christmas grocery shopping trip with my family.

This place is newly opened and is attached to the Jaya Grocer grocery store in Sunway Geo.

It's called Food By Fat Cat... I wonder what's the story behind this name...

It has a very cozy atmosphere and the staff are very cheerful and friendly too.

They also have some mouthwatering homemade cakes, brownie and scones.

Upon placing my orders, the lady at the counter recommended me to try their soup of the day, potato soup. I'm glad I did because it was delicious! I usually won't order creamy soups like this except for mushroom soup. It was not too thick and the taste was just right. The garlic toast that came with it was delicious too. It was soft, fluffy and tasty. It complemented the soup so well.

My sister ordered this and I can't recall the name of it but it consisted of waffles, scrambled eggs and deep fried oyster mushrooms.

My husband ordered The Fattie Breakie. It is a combination of scrambled eggs with crispy turkey ham and edamame beans, sautéed mushrooms, baked beans and a freshly toasted bread. It may look simple but it is delicious.

My father and I could not help it but to try their Nasi Lemak Meow Meow. Their nasi lemak consists of brown rice topped with Crispy Chicken Kaarage, Sambal, thinly sliced and rolled Japanese cucumber, hard boiled eggs, anchovies and peanuts.

My father and I enjoyed our nasi lemak so much and I will definitely revisit this place to try out more dishes.

Later I got to know that this place is a collaboration between Jaya Grocer and the culinary team behind one of the place I recommended in my earlier posts, The Good Batch.

The Fish Bowl, Bandar Sunway

Date visited : 7, 8 & 9 July 2017

I am really excited to tell you about this place as it was love at first sight and then fell head over heels at first bite!

This shop has been around since August 2016 and I've drove pass this shop numerous time but only to think that it was some Pokemon concept shop because it says - Poké Shop. It was on the 5th of July that I found out what this shop is really about. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Pokemon!!

Poké is actually a Hawaiian raw fish salad served as an appetizer in Hawaiian cuisine, and sometimes as a main course. And Poké is healthy, delicious and totally unique!

When I saw the photos in the article shared by sister, I told myself that I HAVE to try this. So I went to pack for a takeaway on the 7th, back again for lunch on the 8th and then back again for dinner on the 9th.

The concept of this shop is quite unique... you get to customize your Poké Bowl to your own liking and preference. How awesome is that?! And it's vegan friendly too!

First, you need to grab an order sheet and a pencil either from the counter or the transparent box mounted on the wall. The order sheet looks like this:

Front - Ready To Order Bowls
If you have no idea what to choose or in a hurry, you can just choose one of the four Ready-To-Order Bowls... Shoyu Salmon Bowl, Zesty Bowl, Spicy Tuna Bowl and Salad Bowl.

But if you have the time, I strongly recommend that you take time to customize the Bowl to your own liking for the day. Just turn the order sheet around and you'll see this :

Back - Customizing your own Bowl
It's quite easy... you just need to follow the instructions Step by Step.

STEP 1 : Pick Your Base
By default, every Bowl comes with a serving of Baby Greens. If you select Baby Greens as your base, it means you'll have additional serving of Baby Greens.

STEP 2 : Pick 2 Sauces
You could choose to mix 2 types of sauces or you could also opt for only 1 type of sauce if you like.

STEP 3 : Pick 4 Sides
You can choose from a wide selection of sides that consists of vegetables, fruits, nuts and pickled vegetable. If you want more than 4, you could have extra 2 scoops just for an additonal price of RM1.50.

STEP 4 : Any Premium Add On?
You could skip this step if you're on a budget or don't need additional add on. But my favourite is the poached egg. Yummy!

STEP 5 : Pick Your Unlimited Toppings
Here you can go crazy and select all the toppings if you like.

STEP 6 : Pick Your Protein
You can choose either salmon (in 3 different flavour), tuna (in 2 different flavour), shrimp, chicken or just tofu for the vegans. It's a bit cheaper if you choose chicken or vegan.

STEP 7 : Pick Your Drink
However, the drinks will be charged separately. They have a few drinks on their drink menu on the wall and a wide selection of juices at their juice counter. But they also provide free, self served plain water.

And if you felt like indulging in something even better, you could choose the Premium Poké Bowl... RM25.90 for the Soft Shell Crab Bowl and RM35.90 for the Unagi Bowl.

Once you're done with all the above steps, just pass the order sheet to the cashier for confirmation and payment. You could then return to your table and wait for your bill number to be called.

My first bowl was a takeaway and I didn't take a photo of that, but here's my second and third bowl:

Baby Greens + Herby Lime + Japanese Cucumber + Shallots +
Cherry Tomatoes + Seaweed Salad + Poached Egg + Seaweed Flakes +
Chili Flakes + Ebiko + Kaffir Lime Salmon
Baby Greens + Herby Lime + Japanese Cucumber + Shallots +
Carrots Seaweed Salad Poached Egg + Seaweed Flakes
Chili Flakes + Furikake + Ebiko + Garlic Shrimp
And these are some of the combination I have gathered from people I know...

Quinoa with Greens + Lime Aioli + Sesame Miso + Corn + Edamame +
Japanese Cucumber + Seaweed Salad + Salmon Skin + Spicy Shoyu Tuna +
Toppings

White Rice + Teriyaki Sauce + Japanese Cucumber + Onions +
Seaweed Salad + Pickled Ginger + Salmon Skin + Seaweed Flakes
Sesame Seeds + Fried Garlic Chips + Honey Herb Chicken

Baby Greens + Teriyaki Sauce + Corns + Onions +
Mangoes + Edamame + Parmesan Crisps + Seaweed Flakes
Green Onions + Honey Herb Chicken

White Rice + Gar-gar Sauce + Corns + Onions +
Pineapple + Pickled Radish + Parmesan Crisps + Seaweed Flakes
Fried Shallots + Sunflower Seeds + Ebiko + Honey Herb Chicken

For those who are on diet or prefer healthy food, this is the best place for you. They also do catering and delivery.

However, the area they need to improve on is to have someone to clean the table immediately after a customer leaves so that the next customer could take the seat comfortably.

OUR RATING
Ambience : 4/5 (It could get a bit noisy at times)
Service : 3.5/5 (Not enough staff to clean the tables)
Food Quality : 4.5/5

Status : Halal
Will we go back for more : Of course!!

Restoran Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun, Sunway

Date visited : 12 February 2017

Today's recommendation is Restoran Ah Or Chu Yuk Fun. The owner's name is Ah Or and Chu Yuk Fun means Pork Noodle. And this place serves one awesome bowl of pork noodle. If you're a fan of pork noodle, this place is definitely a "Must-Try".

It's located in Sunway Mentari and I come here quite often because it's located within walking distance from my favourite bicycle shop, Keen 2 Cycle.

This shop only sells Pork Noodles. The types of noodles available are Mee Hoon, Mee, Kuey Teow or Lou Shu Fun. You can choose for it to be served dry, meaning with black sauce and soup on a separate bowl, or with soup, everything in one bowl. If you want extra ingredients, you could also order the Special.

This is Lou Shi Fun - Dry - Regular Size
This is Mee Hoon - Soup - Regular Size
This is Kuey Teow + Mee - Special - Soup - Regular Size
It is always crowded during lunch hours. So if you're in a hurry or have limited lunch duration, make sure you arrive early to avoid the main lunch hour crowd. It is not because you have to wait longer for the food to be served, it's because you may have to wait for a place to sit. Once you're seated, you don't have to wait very long for your food to be served.
