Merchant's Lane, Kuala Lumpur

Date visited : 31 December 2016

This place was in my 'MUST' Visit List for quite some time already but it was by fate that I get a chance to finally check out this place.

The entrance to this place is quite hidden and one would not easily spot it if you were driving past. It's located above a very traditional grocery store and you will have to enter through a teal coloured swinging door just beside it.

We were greeted by a very friendly crew member who took advised us on the approximate waiting time. The place was uniquely decorated and it made this place very Instagram worthy.

The orders have to be placed and paid at the counter. And here is the menu...

Since there were only 3 of us, I didn't get to try many items on the menu.

It didn't take very long for our drinks and food to be served despite running on a full house.

Guess which drink is mine... the Superfruit Lemon Tea or the Iced Latte?

This is the Breakfast. It's a MUST try when we're trying out a new place... just to see how well they do with the basics. As you can see, the portion is quite generous. The thing that made it unique was they used a very tasty Chinese mushroom instead of the usual button mushrooms.

Since I like pasta, I decided to try out the Italian Chow Mein... it's a stir fried spaghetti with traditional Malaysian chicken rendang. The taste of the rendang was right on point.

Looking at the rest of the items available on their menu, I'll definitely come back with a few more people so that I could try out more things.

Yellow Apron, Sect 13 PJ

Date of visit : 24 December 2016

It's Christmas Eve and we were cracking our heads for a place that serves good food but not overly congested and fairly priced to have a peaceful family dinner. After much thought, my sister decided to recommend the Yellow Apron in Section 13, PJ. Since it was a rainy evening, I didn't get to take my own photo of the premise, so I had to borrow one.

It was spacious, not crowded and with great ambience. The staff was very friendly as they were full of smiles and kept checking with us if everything was alright. Most of their selection on their menu comes with an option for a smaller portion at a slightly lower price. It was very thoughtful of them to have that kind of option especially for the small eaters and for those wanting to try different dishes at the same time.

Now let's see what we had...

Since I have a soft spot for salted egg, I chose The Lip-Smacking Salted Egg Seafood Spaghetti Carbonara (that's what they called it on their menu). It was delicious and the taste of the salted egg was not too overwhelming. The anchovies for me was a good addition to this dish.

And this is what they call a Mademoiselle Melca's Chicken Adobo. It's a classic Filipino dish and it's worth trying.

Wait till you hear the name for this dish... The Classic Not Classic Tagliatelle Lamb Sausage Bolognese. It was alright but the taste of the bolognese was a bit too sour for me.

Next would be The Fantastically Fusion Fried Chicken Burger. It was completed with a touch of sambal belacan to make the burger a bit more Asian and a very generous portion of home made potato chips.

And this is The Dua Dua Beef Burger. I didn't get to taste it so I can't comment much on this. But since my sister did not complain about it, I guess it was acceptable.

Let me present to you the Musang King Pie. Since I'm not a fan of processed durian, my Brother In-Law told me that this was a really awesome durian pie. Maybe the durian lovers out there should give it a try.

Another plus point for this place is that it is spacious enough to cater for private and corporate events. Do check it out and let me know what you think about this place and what you would recommend differently.

Kenny Hills Bakers, Bukit Tunku KL

Date of visit : 4 December 2016

I think the best scent in the world is the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries.

This place has bread and pastries to die for. Just take a look at some of their selections available for you to just pick off the tray for a takeaway or a eat in with a cup of your favourite coffee or tea...

Even the scones are awesome! In case you don't know... good scones are really hard to find. It's slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Together with some good quality salted butter and some jam... it taste heavenly!

My pick of the day was the Vietnamese Banh Mi... And if you would also like to try some other stuff, I would advise you to share this portion with another person.

And if you're looking for something a little bit more heavy, you can give their All Day Breakfast a try too... Those are beef bacon and chickpeas... in case you were wondering.

I was told that the pizzas are awesome too but unfortunately, I didn't have enough stomach space to cater for the pizzas and desserts. I shall use this as an excuse to come back again.

The Good Batch, Damansara Utama

Date of visit : 5 December 2016

The best way to start a Sunday is with a good brunch with your best buddies.

And this was the pick of the day...

It was almost 12pm and the place was almost packed as there were only 2 tables left that could accommodate our group of 5. Despite the fact that they were running on a full house, it didn't take very long for our drinks and food to arrive.

Now let's see what we've ordered...

This is what they called in their menu as "The Angmoh"... consists of two softly scrambled organic eggs, turkey ham, grilled Spanish sausage, grilled tomato, juicy white button mushrooms, pan fried potatoes, baked beans and a lightly toasted garlic bread.

It was just simple and nice with every item cooked to perfection.

Well, I ordered the "Bangers & Mash". It consists of 2 Spanish sausages and 2 poached eggs with creamy sauteed spinach atop a spread of creamy mash potato, drizzled with a yummy Hollandaise sauce and cruncy buttered croutons.

I really appreciate the addition of spinach into this combination as it compliments the rest of the items so well. The texture and flavour of the mash was amazing as well.

Now this is what they called a "Mexicalla". It may look small in size compared to the other 2 dishes we ordered, but it's quite filling. This too has its own uniqueness of taste.

We couldn't help ourselves but to order a side serving of Salted-Egg Wings. It's fried with a fragrant salted-egg marinate, curry leaves and chopped chillies, thus making it a bit spicy but yummy at the same time.

Last but not least is my drink... I forgot the name but it is a mixture of lime, soda and lemongrass. It was very refreshing... thanks to the staff for recommending this to me.

And since there were 5 of us, we would also like to give 10 thumbs up for their excellent service. Do keep up the good work as it really does make a lot of difference.
