Pork Satay @ Satay Cina Thoo Yuen, PJ Old Town

Date visited : 21 May 2017

Are you craving for some satay... but NON-Halal ones? Well, if you are, then you should definitely try this.

To those who don't know what Satay is... it's a dish of marinated, skewered and grilled meat served with a sauce. Satay is a very popular dish in Malaysia and it is usually served with cucumbers, onions and even compressed rice or better known as Nasi Impit. In Malaysia, the commonly used meat for satay are chicken, mutton and beef. In some places you will also have uncommon meat like rabbit and deer... and for Chinese operated stalls, you may also find pork meat. Satay in Malaysia are mainly served with thick and chunky peanut sauce.

This round we will introduce to you the NON-Halal, pork satay, at Gerai Satay Cina Thoo Yuen.

This stall is located within the PJ Old Town Food Court, Stall No 36. This stall is run by an elderly couple who have been serving satay here for more than 30 years now. The stall is well maintained and very clean.

Since we arrive quite early, we were able to avoid the dinner crowd and got our orders fulfilled really fast. This time, we ordered both the pork and the mutton satay.

The best thing about these satay was there were no chunks of fat on the meat. The meat on each stick was purely juicy and tender. Some may usually find the taste of mutton overwhelming but this is not the case for the mutton satay here.

The peanut sauce served with their satay has an extra kick in their taste, This is because there is cili padi and dried chilli added in the mix. But don't worry, it's not very spicy. If you run out of sauce, you can always ask them for more.
